Summary

This is a beautiful story of what it means to be in a family。 The four Riva siblings have been faced with a deadbeat dad, a dedicated, alcoholic mother, and love that transcends all problems。 The story takes place at Nina's house on the beach in Malibu, all on one fateful night。 A party is thrown, and relationships are stressed。 We discover the background of the Riva's, and what went wrong, and what went right in the years leading up to this party。The story is well written and compelling。 I read This is a beautiful story of what it means to be in a family。 The four Riva siblings have been faced with a deadbeat dad, a dedicated, alcoholic mother, and love that transcends all problems。 The story takes place at Nina's house on the beach in Malibu, all on one fateful night。 A party is thrown, and relationships are stressed。 We discover the background of the Riva's, and what went wrong, and what went right in the years leading up to this party。The story is well written and compelling。 I read it in record time - couldn't wait to know how it all would be resolved。 Thank you, NetGalley for allowing me to read Malibu Rising。 。。。more

I loved this book! I’ve never been to Malibu but want to go to just sit on a beach and watch the waves and surfers roll in。 TJR can do no wrong; this is my favorite book by her besides Evelyn Hugo and Daisy Jones。

TJR is known for building amazing characters and plotlines, but for some reason, this one just did not stick with me。 Although the characters felt like they could be "real", unlike her previous books, these ones felt like traditional fiction characters。 For a part of it, I felt like I was reading a shoot-off of Daisy Jones and the Six because Mick and June's story was so familiar to Billy and Camila。 Overall I felt mainly bored while reading it and wanted to just get to the end。 I did enjoy the reference to Celia St。 James at the start of the book, but that reference was the only part where I felt like this could be a true story。 I felt that there were big build-ups to the party and drama surrounding the siblings, but those moments were only briefly discussed when they happened。 I wanted the ending to give me more, but instead, it fell flat。Thank you Random House Publishing-Ballantine Books and NetGalley for the early copy! 。。。more

I was instantly captivated by TJR's writing just as I was when I picked up Evelyn Hugo。 And the fact that this story is centered around on one of her seven husbands, Mick Riva, was amazing。 It all the more confirmed the realities of fame, fortune, and in within this story。。。 fire– literally and figuratively。 Malibu Rising surrounds the four children of Mick Riva: Nina, Jay, Hud, and Kit。 Shifting from past and present, Reid lays out the history between Mick and their mother June and the unfortun I was instantly captivated by TJR's writing just as I was when I picked up Evelyn Hugo。 And the fact that this story is centered around on one of her seven husbands, Mick Riva, was amazing。 It all the more confirmed the realities of fame, fortune, and in within this story。。。 fire– literally and figuratively。 Malibu Rising surrounds the four children of Mick Riva: Nina, Jay, Hud, and Kit。 Shifting from past and present, Reid lays out the history between Mick and their mother June and the unfortunate outcome of his infidelity and absence as a father and husband。 The present being the day of the iconic and notorious Riva Summer party。 I loved getting the multiple perspectives of each of the Riva siblings, June, Mick, and even the party goers。 At first, I thought the other characters were unnecessary, but I realized they each served a purpose in depicting how the world of fame & fortune truly is and that it is not what it seems to be from the outside looking in。 Most of all, it revealed that happiness doesn't have a price and having the biggest house on a cliff above a beach in Malibu can be everything to someone and nothing to another。 Nina Riva。 A woman。 A daughter。 A sister。 And a mother without warning。 I resonated with her the most as an older sister myself。 The downfall of two people always rolls onto the lap of on their children。 Whether they mean to do so or not。。。 and Nina definitely felt the load she had to carry for June and even Mick。 And the fact that her sacrifice did not go unnoticed by Jay, Hud, and Kit was everything。 I loved that they wanted better for her and saw that she deserved everything their mother would have wanted for her and them all。 Seeing the Riva siblings be there for each other, console each other, and look out for one another like no other just hit home for me。 Their love is truly unmatched。 The breakthroughs in the book were on point! I was rooting for each Riva kid, but especially Nina。 And I was so proud of her when she spoke up and was no longer accepting what was happening to her。 The shift in in her energy and spark was real。 Beautifully and emotionally written, but there is just no element I could not stick by that unsettles me in any book that I read and it's betrayal。 Hence by slight rating dock。 Aside from that, it is a easy 4。5 for me。Thank you to NetGalley for my e-ARC! 。。。more

It started off strong, but the second half was disjointed and underwhelming (for me at least)。 That being said, I really liked reading about the Riva siblings' relationship and I loved Nina, she deserves the world。 It started off strong, but the second half was disjointed and underwhelming (for me at least)。 That being said, I really liked reading about the Riva siblings' relationship and I loved Nina, she deserves the world。 。。。more

Malibu Rising is everything I wanted: the surfing, the sand, the scandal。 This book set my emotions ablaze。 🔥Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of my favorite authors and her writing was impeccable, as always。 One thing TJR excels at is creating complicated relationships that get under my skin。 I always finish her books feeling a little tender and bruised, but also swept away by the romance and sensuality。 The characters sizzle off the pages, there are complex family dynamics, and suspense。 The story ta Malibu Rising is everything I wanted: the surfing, the sand, the scandal。 This book set my emotions ablaze。 🔥Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of my favorite authors and her writing was impeccable, as always。 One thing TJR excels at is creating complicated relationships that get under my skin。 I always finish her books feeling a little tender and bruised, but also swept away by the romance and sensuality。 The characters sizzle off the pages, there are complex family dynamics, and suspense。 The story takes place in the 80s with flashbacks to the 50s-70s。 So obviously, it’s a recipe for a great time。 Also, keep your eyes open for a little Easter egg from The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo。 👀 I got really excited when I spotted it。 。。。more

Taylor Jenkins Reid just knows how to write and to create characters that you care for so much, that you just have to know what’s going on in their lives。 Her stories and characters are always so complex, no black and white。I didn’t know what to expect from this one when I went in, but now I can tell it was kind of a weird story。 One that I couldn’t stop reading! It’s a bit of a slice of life, not really with a specific kind of plot, more like a family story。It jumps back between the past and the Taylor Jenkins Reid just knows how to write and to create characters that you care for so much, that you just have to know what’s going on in their lives。 Her stories and characters are always so complex, no black and white。I didn’t know what to expect from this one when I went in, but now I can tell it was kind of a weird story。 One that I couldn’t stop reading! It’s a bit of a slice of life, not really with a specific kind of plot, more like a family story。It jumps back between the past and the present, between June and Mick, from when they first met, and that of their now adult children now in the 80s。The way the story is told I just felt like I was right there, in Malibu, with the burning sun and the ocean。 Right there in the described decade with the fitting background music playing。 All of her books did that for me so far。In the second part of the book the two stories kind of meet in the 1980s at an annual party Nina Riva is hosting。 The last part got a bit confusing for me。 All these new people were introduced, the party got quite out of hand and turning into a riot, I was starting to wonder what this is all about。In the end it was still a family story。 A story about an imperfect, dysfunctional, messy family, but in the end still a family。 My favourite parts to read were the ones about the present, the lives of the Riva children。 But it was also so interesting to see how they got where they were right now and why they developed that way。 They all have their packages to carry and they all carry a different one, they all have their own problems and secrets。I love stories about siblings, especially big families and found families。 I loved how it ended, with each of them figuring themselves out a little more, developing in different ways。I can’t say this was the most thrilling story ever, but it just sucked me right in somehow and if you love family stories and character driven stories in general you will love this as well! 。。。more

✨ She knew it was up to her to say what had to be said。 To do what had to be done。 When there is only you, you do not get to choose which jobs you want, you do not get to decide you are incapable of anything。 ✨There is something about the way that Taylor Jenkins Reid writes that completely draws you in。 Malibu Rising is another novel where I was sucked in from the start。 Jenkins Reid develops the characters so well that you can’t put it down。 This wasn’t my favourite Jenkins Reid novel, however ✨ She knew it was up to her to say what had to be said。 To do what had to be done。 When there is only you, you do not get to choose which jobs you want, you do not get to decide you are incapable of anything。 ✨There is something about the way that Taylor Jenkins Reid writes that completely draws you in。 Malibu Rising is another novel where I was sucked in from the start。 Jenkins Reid develops the characters so well that you can’t put it down。 This wasn’t my favourite Jenkins Reid novel, however I was heavily invested in the Riva family。 I really felt for Nina, raising her brothers and sisters without any support and in the end she was fighting so many of her own demons trying to balance living her own life and providing for her family。 Also, Is Kit my spirit animal? I vibed with her personality a lot。 When I was growing up I was often referred to as the “tomboy” and was also playing rugby with the boys in the backyard, so I kind of understand Kits vibe。 Also, youngest child right here 🙋🏻‍♀️Controversially, the last 20% didn’t really hook me in like Daisy Jones or Evelyn Hugo。 Still a great read, as always, putting the reader right in the minds of the characters。 Can someone take me to Malibu now?! Thanks 🙏🏼This one is out 27th May! #maliburising #taylorjenkinsreid #randomhouse #netgalley #bookreview #bookstagram #bookstagramaustralia #bookstagrammer #booklover #bookclub #bookcommunity 。。。more

Thanks at Netgalley for giving me the chance to read this advanced E-copy of Malibu Rising。I have read all of Reid's books, and her last book, Daisy Jones and the Six was awesome。 I was so excited to see a new upcoming book by here, but wondered if anything would be as good as that book but hey, its Taylor Jenkins Reid! She did not disappoint。She has a way of writing that just draws you in so easily, nothing feels forced, it all just comes together and flows so easily。 I was hooked from the firs Thanks at Netgalley for giving me the chance to read this advanced E-copy of Malibu Rising。I have read all of Reid's books, and her last book, Daisy Jones and the Six was awesome。 I was so excited to see a new upcoming book by here, but wondered if anything would be as good as that book but hey, its Taylor Jenkins Reid!
